The 'How" and "Why" of Financial Aid
“The How and Why of Financial Aid,” will help practitioners build skills and confidence in dealing with enrollment and student aid issues on their own campuses. The day’s program will focus on policies related to access and equity, the “why” principles undergirding financial aid. Participants’ packets will include demographic, social, and economic data specific to their own state/local market area. This full-day workshop will help participants:
1. Become familiar with their institution’s broader planning goals and how to articulate the relevance and importance of student aid in achieving those goals;
2. Better understand the demographic, social, economic, and political factors affecting postsecondary education and gain confidence in addressing the importance of enrollment policies that provide both access and equity;
3. Learn how to balance trade-offs between the use of financial aid to achieve institutional goals and/or to address societal needs and how to use data and diplomacy to inform campus discussion on these issues; and
4. Gain understanding of how to use data and research to inform policy and learn how to communicate effectively internally and externally

Leadership On A Dime: Leveraging Resources On A Limited Budget!
Sponsored by

NASFAA's Access and Diversity Committee is hosting "Leadership on A Dime: Leveraging Resources on a Limited Budget" - a workshop focused on small and “under-resourced” institutions, primarily composed of tribal colleges, HBCUs, Hispanic and other minority serving institutions, and small, religious-based institutions.
This workshop will provide an appropriate environment for small and under-resourced institutions that gives them the opportunity to focus on specific subject matter in an informal setting, more conducive to small discussion groups and networking - facilitating the learning process and increasing available resources – all at the same time.
While only a few topics can be appropriately covered in one day, it is the informal networking and forum-type sessions that will provide the attendees the additional “human” resources and networking contacts they can then utilize when they return to their offices and are then faced with situations where they may need assistance.
